Not the highest quality, but $55 at Costco it was a good deal. I'll make the footrest another day. Probably when I paint it. Who votes for Gulf livery?

Green with black stripes.

That's a bit overdone at this point.

That looks nice! I’m tempted to get those instead of stripping and repainting the ones we have since it’s a PITA to take them apart and put them back together.

Be forewarned, you get what you pay for. The Costco one I bought has some holes predrilled, and at other points just goes “eh, you can figure it out”. That, plus the number of knots and bits that need a hard sanding mean you’ll have to put a bit of work into it.
In any case, I still like it. Just bummed that I’ll be taking it apart in two weeks to paint it.

I keep thinking that some year I’ll get around to making a set of these.

You can kind of see ours in this pic. They were built by a guy I used to work with who sold them as a side gig. They were pretty solid but they’re 8 or 9 years old at this point and have been repainted 2 or 3 times.

I felt the same way. The nice weather and a good price finally pushed me over the edge.

I guess it’s time for a good sanding and more paint!

One in Gulf, one in Martini and maybe a Porsche pig...

Sigh, it is. At least this time I can do the sanding/painting in a garage instead of outside in the yard.

I think just red then. Classic.

Unfortunately, I have no good reason to build more than one of these right now. Oh well.
![]() 06/04/2019 at 18:48 |

If it makes you feel better, I’ll be sanding and painting outside in the yard.

That’s a good call. But if I’m going with one colour, I might just stain it.

I approve of this plan. Be sure to apply a good primer/sealer before you apply the color coats. Don’t use that all-in-one stuff.

Yup, wood would be sealed and stained first.

Can’t go wrong with a stain

And even in pine, from a guy who works wood, I’d say $55 is NP.

As someone who does no handywork whatsoever, I’m just impressed you knew it was pine from the photo.

I certainly wouldn’t hold it against you!

There’s one at Lowes for sale for $80.

Do you make your friends sit on the ground?

What friends?

In case of attrition during Le-Mans? Someone hits the curb/bottle a little too hard and blows out a strut then you still have a chair in the race
![]() 06/04/2019 at 22:04 |

Well, in that case, what about f amily? Neighbors? Acquaintances? Squaters?
Also, are these the Adirondack chairs? At $55 I may snag a pair, I have a huge deck that could always use more furniture and I actually love the Gulf & Martini idea.

Family: Ontario. Neighbours: eh. Acquaintances: maybe. Squaters: they have bigger concerns if they squat here.
And yes, Muskoka/Adirondack chairs. It was $55 CAD at Costco and also came with an Ottoman (which I need to build). Here’s a link of places to buy the one I got. They have a bunch of different types, too.

I'll certainly accept the praise, but it doesn't take an expert in wood grain to spot pine. And there are many varieties.
